Broken link in forum notification emails

Recommended Posts

Hiho.

I am using a text-only email client, as I belong to the generation that detests HTML emails 😉

However, the forums link in the text part of notification emails is broken. It contains the HTML entity "&" for "&", which is not allowed here (but it's fine in the HTML part of the email, although it's not mandatory and should work ther both with and without it).

For example it says:

Go to this post: http://www.plasticscm.net/topic/20625-no-more-simplified-merging-on-same-branch/?do=findComment&comment=38475

, which does not work, and it should read:

Go to this post: http://www.plasticscm.net/topic/20625-no-more-simplified-merging-on-same-branch/?do=findComment&comment=38475

If you find the time, could you please fix this? Thanks! 🙂

Hi @Wolfram,

I got this from the forum support team:

Quote

Hello,

The issue here appears how he is trying to get plain text emails. It appears he may be using Mozilla Thunderbird - I'd have him take a look at https://www.lifewire.com/plain-text-message-thunderbird-1173199

He should consider using simple HTML instead so the HTML entities like & are parsed as &, but malicious content -- if that's his concern -- is not.

Regards,

Hi @manu!

Thanks for following up on this!

Well, unfortunately my email client has no "Simple HTML", only the plain text and full HTML of "multipart/alternative" emails.

And the issue is definitely on THEIR side, the URL encoding in the "text/plain" part of the email definitely IS wrong, there should be no HTML entities in there.

But I can understand if they do not want to make the effort to fix this (for whatever reason), as there are probably not many people who see this issue (I might well be the only one... ^^). In which case I'd continue as I did before: by clicking the incorrect URL, and then fixing it by hand 🙂

Hi @Wolfram,

Yes, it seems to be just as you pointed out... We can't do a lot about it from our side 😔 We'll let you know if we get more info from them regarding this issue.

Regards,

Miguel
